Mary (Devlin) Cassidy

Francis Cassidy (c. 1820-1890)of Leghowney, Co. Donegal, Ireland, married Mary Devlin (c. 1827-1897) also of Leghowney

Their children were:

James, Johnny, Hugh, Tommy, Francis, Edward, Pat, Andy (died at 18),

Katie, Biddie, Mary Ann

James (1854-1940) m. Bridget Murphy (1862-1956). (See Mary McGuire Cassidy Chart). Their children were Andy, Paddy, Frank (see “Frank Cassidy” by Don Cassidy), Edward, John James (died around 20), Michael, Anthony, Mary, Maggie Alice.

Johhny’s children included Big Frank who emigrated to the Bronx, John who emigrated to Ft. Lee, N.J., James (Horner), Leghowney, whose wife was Murphy, and a daughter who married one of the Hones (children included James & Margaret Drury). (See section on Horners)

Edward married Mary Ann Gallagher (aunt of Margaret Gorman, Aggie Fury, Hugh and Frank, all of the Dykeman Street area of Manhattan).

Margaret, who married Frank Murphy and lived in Leghowney; and Ellen, who married William Carroll and lived in Glasgow.

After Mary Ann died Edward remarried and had two daughters, Mary Anne Cassidy and Bridget Sweeney. Bridget had children, 1 daughter, Ann who has 3 children living in or near Donegal town, there may also be 2 boys (?)

Some of Francis and Mary Devlin Cassidy’s sons traveled the world but all returned to Leghowney and are buried in the cemetery of Clar Chapel.
